THE POWER OF SMOOTHIES
As a general rule, it's easier and faster to drink than to eat. Not that I have anything against eating solid food of course, but drinking something nutritious is quick, satisfying, and nourishing. One of the best ways to do this is with smoothies! I love them and I try to make a point of incorporating them in my weekly meal plans. I personally use a Vitamix blender which is super powerful and can blend just about anything. But for most purposes, any decent blender will do. Usually I use smoothies as an in-between meal snack, but there are also times when I use it as a meal itself. A good smoothie along with a handful of nuts and raisins makes for a very satisfying meal. If I'm on the run (which is most of the time), having something quick like this can really help!
So what are the benefits of drinking smoothies? The abundance of live, uncooked foods flushes your body of toxins, leaving you feeling refreshed and energized. It really is an amazing feeling! It makes your skin glow, your breath fresh, and it helps regulate your system. Colds and flus are less frequent, gums are less prone to bleeding, and much much more!
Anyway here are some of my favourite recipes along with some names I've given them. I have a sheet printed out with these on the side of my fridge. That way, I don't need to think about it. I just mix it up in the morning and I'm off. I didn't put down amounts of each ingredient. I go purely by feel and you should too. Experiment with different amounts. I will say however that when using greens in your smoothies they should make up the lion's share of the drink.
