THE POWER OF SMOOTHIES!
Personally I love smoothies. From a very young age, I've always associated smoothies and various shakes with vibrant health. You can mix it up in so many ways, there's just no limit to the possibilities. In fact, it's possible to replace some of your meals with smoothies. A good protein powder mixed in with plenty of fruits and vegetables is tasty, nutritious, and it will prevent you from giving in to hunger and going for junk food. There have been many times when I knew I wouldn't have time to sit down for a meal, so I just drank a good smoothie.
So what are some of the benefits of drinking smoothies? The abundance of live, uncooked foods flushes your body of toxins leaving you feeling refreshed and energized. It makes your skin glow, your breath fresh, and helps to regulate your system. Colds and flus are far less frequent, ypur gums will be less prone to bleeding. I could go on, but these are just some of the benefits. Of course, you can get the same benefits if you eat the foods in the smoothies, but it's much easier to drink your food than to eat it.
Here are some of my favourite recipes. Remember that you can add protein powder to any of them for a muscle building boost. Think of these as base formulas.
BERRY DELIGHT
Large handful of spinach or spring mix
5 or 6 strawberries
Half cup of blueberries
BODY CLEANSER
2 to 3 carrots
Half cucumber
Half beet with the greens
LUNG TONIC
5 carrots
4 sprigs of watercress
4 sprigs of parsley
MUSCLE BUILDER
5 carrots
2 stalks of celery
Large handful of spinach or spring mix
4 sprigs of parsley
PACIFIC PRIZE
4 carrots
2 florets of cauliflower
Half leaf of Bok Choy
And there you go! Some smoothie recipes to get you started. Of course I'm not saying to live on a liquid diet, but adding in smoothies can really help get those recommended 5 to 10 servings of fruits and veggies. And on top of that, they taste great!
