When discussing fitness, too often the topic of the mind is ignored. This is in actuality the most important factor! I mean it's great to talk about losing weight, building lean muscle, etc. But without the proper mindset, it will be built on a poor foundation. So what IS the proper mindset?
I did a recent video titles 'Learn To Unlearn" which I want to now expand upon. All our lives, we have been conditioned and told what to do, what not to do, how to think, what is acceptable, not acceptable, etc. Of course we do need some of this. We can't exactly have people running around doing whatever they please. The problem is that it's gone too far. All too often when someone wants to do something and every fibre in their being is telling them to do something, they won't do it out of fear that they will be laughed at or won't be seen as acceptable. People often won't do something unless they get some type of reinforcement or confirmation from someone. This is the problem. When you have these thoughts of doing something and it comes from purity or being in the moment, THAT is your true self trying to get out and you shouldn't fight it. There is of course a difference between that type of feeling and the feeling of wanting to drink a bottle of Jack Daniels! And through proper awareness, you will learn the difference.
And that is the key word. AWARENESS! Awareness of yourself, your environment, your body, etc. Through proper training, your awareness is developed and:
YOU WILL LEARN THE CAUSE OF YOUR IGNORANCE!
This was a quote from an old episode of Longstreet. It was a short lived show in the early 1970s starring James Franciscus as a blind detective. In one episode titled "The Way Of The Intercepting Fist" legendary martial arts icon Bruce Lee guest starred in it and said the above statement. When you learn this and you start understanding your true self, that's when you will truly see everything clearly! You see, fitness is much, much more than building muscle and losing weight. Yes, these things are important. But they are in many ways a means to an end. The eventual goal is to RAISE YOUR AWARENESS! Do this and everything else will make sense and fall into place.
