Summer is here and it's a hot one! Of course it's a great time to get outside and enjoy that sun, but you just need to keep a few things in mind. Here are a few tips to get the most out of those summer workouts. Before long, you'll be complaining about the cold, so take advantage of the beautiful warm weather while it's here!
Indulge in the great outdoors and do your workout in the backyard or at a local park. Not only is it a great way to get fit but also a great way to soak up that valuable vitamin D. Summer gives you the perfect excuse to get out of the house and start enjoying life, the same applies to your fitness.
In the summer months its very easy to lose track of your hydration. Not drinking enough can lead to regular headaches and feelings of lethargy. This is the last thing you want! In the hot weather, and especially to maximize your exercise performance you should be upping your water intake considerably. There is no harm in supplementing with electrolytes and isotonic beverages.
DON'T FORGET THOSE ELECTROLYTES!
There are 7 major electrolytes that your body needs. Here they are:
Forget sugar-loaded sports drinks to get your electrolytes. Instead try coconut water OR one of my personal favourites, honey and lemon juice mixed in water (essentially a natural lemonade!)
ENJOY THE MORNINGS!
The mornings are a perfect time to hit a workout. The sun isn't at its highest and the weather is usually tolerable. These make for the perfect conditions for a morning workout. The other awesome thing about working out in the morning is that you get an increased blood flow to your brain which makes you feel energised and revived! Let's not forget about those endorphins too!
DON'T FORGET TO LIVE A LITTLE!
Summer is all about having fun and enjoying the great outdoors. Why don't you push yourself to try something you never thought you could do? Why not indulge in some water sports? Some crazy adventure sports even? You could even go on an adventure holiday where you can challenge yourself with a whole host of amazing activities!
