This is a video I filmed about proper walking technique. There are a few keys to remember when discussing that.
1. PROPER FOOTWEAR
2. PUSH OFF WITH YOUR REAR FOOT (REAR WHEEL DRIVE)
3. ALWAYS MAINTAIN BALANCE
It has unfortunately become the norm for people to wear shoes with raised heels, some of them shockingly so! This is completely natural and can severely alter your proper walking technique. Have you ever noticed how differently you walk while barefooted? That should be the way you walk ALL THE TIME! And with proper footwear, you can.
Also remember to push off with your rear foot. If you're wearing the proper footwear and you're also pushing off with the rear foot, your lead foot will simply land almost flat without any kind of hard heel strike. Your foot should just naturally roll as you leand and spring off for the next step. Essentially you're the same as a rear wheel drive car!
And finally, always maintain balance. Not only the balance of your body so you don't fall over, but balance between your feet so you're pushing off and extending equally.
With these keys along with the special exercises in the video, you should be well on your way to proper, healthy, and lifelong walking!
