One of the most common problems I see is people who either don't have a clear goal in mind or people who have no clue how to reach their goals. I can't count the number of times I've seen people who wanted to either build a large amount of muscle mass or lose a large amount of fat, only to be doing completely inefficient and useless exercises. They will often refer to them as "toning" or "shaping" exercises. I prefer to call them BS exercises. The movements that bring into play the large muscle groups and push your cardiovascular system harder are obviously the ones that will bring the greatest results. These are the movements to be focusing on.
And the thing is that regardless of whether you're trying to build muscle or lose fat, the exercises used don't change. It's all about the set-rep method and the pace of the workout. There are endless possible combinations here and they will bring a HUGE variety of results. But in no way should anyone ever do these so-called toning workouts. These are taught to people to make the workouts fun and maybe less intimidating. But that won't do anything for your results. I on the other hand don't care about sugar coating things and telling you that it's going to be easy. IT WON'T BE! It's going to be hard work and I won't lie about that. But you will get results and that's really the bottom line. Just remember that anything worth having is going to require hard work. If you believe otherwise, then you're living in a dream world!
